About Tech Prep

Tech Prep aims to help parents, educators, and learners explore programming, the jobs available to programmers, and the skills required to become one.

Our research findings

We created Tech Prep in response to our understanding, supported by a research study, about the participation of underrepresented minorities in programming careers. Here’s what we found:

of Blacks and 42% of Hispanics say they would be good at working with computers, compared to 35% of Whites and 35% of Asians.

of parents/guardians say they do not know how to help their child pursue computer science.

of lower income and non-college graduate parents/guardians say they do not know how to help their child pursue computer science.

TechPrep: Finding and inspiring the technologists of the future with Facebook. McKinsey & Company. (2015, October 30). https://www.mckinsey.com/about-us/new-at-mckinsey-blog/techprep#.

Our goal

Our goal is to spur interest in CS and programming and motivate people from all backgrounds to pursue careers in tech. We believe exposure and access to these resources will enable the next generation of programmers to gain the skills they need to have a technical career.
